Harmonization

Amersham & Wycombe College have created it’s very own Glee Club!! Harmonization is a brand new group, dedicated to enjoying Musical Theatre and the learning the techniques behind singing. If you would like to be a part of Harmonization the first session is on Monday 27th February, 12.30pm – 1.30pm in Room D4. Come along and get those vocal chords working!

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Debate

Amersham & Wycombe College are holding a debate in aid of LGBT History Month which occurs this February. We will be exploring issues that are prominent, controversial and misunderstood within the LGBT community and have guest panellists from Reading University's LGBT Society who will be there to answer questions from students. We hope to raise awareness throughout the college through the LGBT debate and hope that this spurs on other LGBT related activities at Amersham & Wycombe College. The LGBT Debate will be taking place on Thursday 9th February, 12.30pm - 1.30pm in the Common Room (C14) on the Amersham Campus. This event is open to both students and staff and you're encouraged to bring classes along if you deem this appropriate. If you would like to be a part of this debate as a panellist then please get in contact with Simeon Aikman on saikman@amersham.ac.uk as soon as possible.

The Contemporary Poetry Society

Do you have a creative flair for writing? Do you love to write poetry? The contemporary poetry society is the way to share and develop your poetry. If you write or are interested in poetry then you have to get involved!! There is even the possibility of being published!!

Chiltern Youth Action (CYA) Drop-in Session

Chiltern Youth Action is a joint venture between Aylesbury Youth Actionand Wycombe Youth Action to increase the quantity, quality and diversity ofyouth volunteering projects within the Chiltern District of Bucks. Theaim is to improve life opportunities for young people, aged 14-24, throughvolunteering activities enabling them to make a positive contribution to theircommunity.

There will be CYA drop-in sessions at Amersham & Wycombe College(Amersham Campus) at 12.00pm -1.30pm on Tuesdays.

The Youth Action Team (YAT) are at the heart of CYA and help to influence and support our work. With support from staff they are involved in all aspects of developing and improving youth volunteering in the Chilterns including:

· Promoting volunteering

· Recruiting new volunteers

· Raising awareness of achievements of young people

· Developing new projects to help meet community needs

· Consulting with other young people

The team is open to young people from all backgrounds and abilities with roles tailored to individual interest, all you need is plenty of enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved! If you like more information contact Simon or Philippa on 01296421149 or via email on chilternyat@googlemail.com.

I am pleased to announce that Mike Sutton, former BTEC National Diploma Business student, is the new President of the Amersham & Wycombe College Students' Union. We are all looking forward to working with Mike to drive the learner involvement strategy forward in 2011-12 and Mike himself is very keen to get know all of the new students in September.
